The Start of Nike

In 1964, Oregon Track Coach Bill Bowerman and his former student Phil Knight would create a brand called Blue Ribbon Sports. Their goal was to create a high quality revolutionary track shoe. In 1966, they opened their first retail store and in 1972, they created their first Nike running shoe. Later in 1978, they official became Nike Inc. Additionally, Nike became a public company and people where able to invest in them.

The Nike Cortez

One of Nike’s most iconic sneakers is the Nike Cortez. In 1972, the sneaker was released as a running shoe. Many top Athletes used the shoe in the 1972 Olympic Games. The First year the shoe came out, Nike made 800,000 dollars in sales from the shoe.

The Nike Air Jordan

The Nike Air Jordan is Arguably Nike’s most iconic sneaker. In 1984, Jordan was drafted. He played a great rookie season. Jordan got a deal with Nike. Due to his acrobatic dunks and great ball skills, many people wanted to get their hands on his sneakers. According to Sole collector, Nike sold over 3 million to 4 million pairs in the Air Jordan’s debut year.

The Nike SB Dunk

The Nike dunk was originally designed to be a basketball shoe. The sneaker was designed for NCAA for athletes, particularly Basketball players.. The shoe took its own turn and was eventually a skateboarding shoe. The shoe had some great collaborations. They collaborated with Travis Scott, Off white, Staple, and many more.

The Nike Air Yeezy

In 2009, Rapper Kanye West Collaborated with Nike to release the first Air Yeezy. The shoe retail to for a whopping $215. Then in 2012, Kanye West and Nike released the Air Yeezy 2. The shoe retail for larger price of $250. In 2014, Kanye West and Nike released their final sneaker together, before he left for Adidas. The Red October (pictured above) which is arguably one of West’s most popular shoes of all time. The sneaker resells for over 8,000.

Travis Scott collaborated with Nike on many sneakers. He created Air Jordan 1s, Air Jordan 4s, Air maxes, Air Force 1s and SB dunks. His most popular shoe was his Air Jordan 1. It has a resale price over one thousands dollars!

Virgil Abloh is the creator Off White. He is also the creative director of Louis Vuitton. He collaborated with Nike to create many sneakers. His first collaboration ‘The Ten’ was the most popular. His best selling shoe was the ‘Chicago’ Air Jordan 1. The show resales for over three thousand dollars!
