Self Isolation

The current norm.

What is going on in the world is scary, there is no doubt about it. If you are like me, a non-essential work person than the one thing you need to do IS STAY HOME!

It’s hard to do, you miss your friends, family or significant others. People all around the world are dying in mass numbers and the only way we can stop that is to truly just stay home.

Now, being stuck at home is hard even when you have a TV or computer and of course your food cabinet. As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression it is important for me to stay busy, active and probably most important is to have a routine!

In this mag I am going to help you stay at home! So read on for all my tips and tricks :)

Enjoy xx

Wake Up! Let’s Be Productive

I normally would wake up at 8am to get to work, but since I have no work to get ready for (and I am barely sleeping thanks to the crippling anxiety and fear of what’s happening in the world) I get up around 9:15. I don’t set an alarm it’s just the normal time my body wakes up (and my full house) gets loud.

I have a journal called “The Five Minute Journal” which I have been using since September, but got lazy and stopped around January. I thought this would be a great time to start again.

So every morning I write three things I am grateful for, three things I want to do to that day and a positive phrase. Even if you don’t have a journal this is a great thing to do in these uncertain times! You can use a pad of paper or notebook. I will link the journal at the end of this page if you want to check it out!

I then make my bed (very important!) and complete my skin routine. After that I will put on **workout clothes** not sweats or a new set of pyjamas! Doing this ensures that I will workout that day. Having the workout clothes on my body takes out a step of changing into them, and is a constant reminder TO WORKOUT!

After all that exciting stuff, I’ll head downstairs for breakfast which is a cup of coffee and a banana mushed with hemp and chia seed. This is my morning routine! No matter if it’s Monday or Saturday this is what I’ll do. A routine let’s see you feel more normal in these uncertain times.

A Workout!

Move your body, get active, get those endorphins pumping! As Elle Woods iconically says in Legally Blonde, “Endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands!”

So, after breakfast I normally will log in and do a few work check ins. That is becoming less and less, so I will kill sometime in between digesting my breakfast and my workout.

Great time killers: a puzzle! I ordered one amazon a few weeks back which has been great. You can also read a book, put on a tv show. Remember this time killer between my workout and my breakfast is not long. You don’t want to get stuck somewhere this early in the day, you will end up restless.

Workout time! I am very lucky that I have an at home gym, which I know most people do not. A lot of bloggers are posting at home workouts to do using household items. I also ordered bands that are a great items to use at home! Be sure to check on YouTube for free easy at home workouts! From 40-60 minutes this will make you feel better mentally and physically.

  • Project Time

  • Fun activities to do at home!

At this point half my day is already gone! Post workout of course I’ll shower then decide what to eat/ make for lunch.

So I’m sure you are wondering what you are going to do next! Personally, I like to not settle down for a movie or tv show binge just yet. It makes me lazy and bums me out even more. So every day I’ll set myself a project.

What kind of project is what you are probably thinking! Well you know those things that you say you’ll do but never get too? That is what I call a perfect quarantine project.

Some projects I have gotten up to during this self isolation:

    • Clean out my closet! Most places are not accepting charitable donations but that doesn’t mean you can’t clean out what you don’t wear and put them in bags.
    • Clean my shoes! My shoes have been filthy, and this was the perfect time to clean them. Pro tip! If you get a bowl and put baking soda, white vinegar and warm water. Voila! You have just made shoe cleaner! Use an old toothbrush (clean it!) or something with bristles to dip into the solution and scrub those shoes.
    • Get creative! If you want to paint, write a play or make up a dance (hello Tik Tok) this is the perfect chance to let out your creative side.
    • Bake! I have been researching some healthy cookies to make that have been delicious.

On my to do project list is to take a class, lots of university’s are currently offering cool online classes for free! How could you possible pass up such an awesome opportunity? Attaching link at the bottom for you to check out!

A Nap Goes A Long Way

If you are like me and have not been sleeping do to having overwhelming anxiety and crippling fear over what is happening in the world then a nap is needed!

My naps normally take place at around 3:30! Don’t be like me and sleep through your alarm. A nap should really be 45-60 minutes, just as a reboot and reset and to get some extra shut eye since you are not getting a lot at night.

    What Now?

I’m sure you are wondering when you get to binge some TV during this jam packed day? Well during this isolation I have been investing my time in watching something that I have not watched before. For example: I watched all of Wes Anderson’s movies! I am now binging every single James Bond movie in order of release.

    Ideas of what to watch:

    • Mary Kate & Ashley movies
    • Lord of the Rings
    • Harry Potter
    • Steven Spielberg directed movies
    • Reese Witherspoon movies
    • Indiana Jones

I try and limit screen time to after dinner, not to get bored and lazy. It’s important to have your days be full or we will all go crazy.

    That’s The Day

Wow ok guys! You have made it through a day. You were active you did a project and now you just want to relax.

While I watch my movies I also like to colour! It helps me relax before bed. I am going to link some fun books below (I have a creepy serial killer colouring book, if you are into that sort of thing.)

All I can say, when going through this wild time is to try and stay grounded, keep busy and don’t think negatively. We will get through this, so stay inside! Social distance if you need to go to the grocery store or walk your dog.

    Stay healthy and safe.
